Comprehensive Oral Exams
A comprehensive oral exam is the initial exam in which all areas of the mouth are
thoroughly examined, a full series of x-rays are taken, all existing treatment and
conditions are charted and all areas of concern are addressed and treatment planned.
The areas included in the examination are as follows:
- Periodontal Exam (gum and bones supporting the teeth)
- Dental Exam (teeth)
- Radiographic Exam (x-rays and various scans)
- Oral Cancer Screening
- Head and Neck Cancer Exam (soft tissues of mouth, throat and surrounding structures)
- TMJ Exam (jaw joints)
- Aesthetic Exam (appearance of teeth and gums related to the face, shade of teeth is recorded)
- Blood pressure is taken and recorded
